Message Tag (aka MSGTAG) Review

Message Tag is a very specific tool – quite unlike the multi-faceted email marketing solutions reviewed in the rest of this section of our website. MSGTAG performs one task and one task only – it notifies you when a recipient opens an email that you’ve sent.

Additional Information:

Currently at Version 2, Message Tag sends you an email whenever an email that you send is opened. Not only does it notify you that the email was opened, but it also tells you when you sent the message and what the delay was between when it was sent and when it was opened.

Unlike read receipts such as those provided by email clients like Microsoft Outlook that bothers your recipients with annoying popup windows asking them to confirm receipt, MSGTAG works completely behind the scenes. You need not alter your email in any way for Message Tag to work properly. The only indication that Message Tag is even functioning is a small icon in your system tray.

Run MSGTAG on almost email program (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Pegasus). However, while you may use MSGTAG to tag messages sent to recipients with Yahoo and Hotmail addresses, users of Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL (and similar service) cannot send tagged messages.

Message Tag maintains your strict privacy. No one from MSGTAG has any access to reading your messages. MSGTAG neither views, stores, nor passes your messages through their servers. There is a detailed Privacy Policy laid out on their site for your total peace of mind.

A simple, attractive capsule icon (like a pill capsule) sits on your desktop or in your system tray. Just click on it to enable or disable MSGTAG. It’s really that simple.

And MSGTAG supports attachments, inline images, and multimedia emails.

MSGTAG comes in “3 Great Flavors”:

MSGTAG Free
Try before you buy. Get email notifications of the date and time messages were sent, the date and time messages were opened, and the span of time in between. Even the free version of MSGTAG supports multiple email accounts (on the same computer). All notifications are sent to the same 1 email account. A small footer is added to your recipients’ emails to let them know that you know they’ve read your email.

MSGTAG+ (aka MSGTAG Plus): $19.95
All the features of MSGTAG Free plus you can customize the footers your recipients receive to include your own personal message, signature, or hide the footer altogether. Also comes with free unlimited email tech support.

MSGTAG Status 2:  $59.95
Includes all the features of MSGTAG Plus plus the MSGTAG Dashboard for keeping track of all your tagged messages. See at a glance the status of all sent messages either in addition to or instead of filling up your inbox with loads of notifications. Individually tag emails with multiple recipients, and specify tagging and notification settings for different groups of your contacts. Get SMS notifications for those urgent emails. Get enhanced security and communication settings for SSL/TLS and Gmail.

Lastly, MSGTAG Status 2 also includes Mutual Mail a new service for tagging messages sent to recipients whose email clients have previously blocked MSGTAG tagging code. Mutual Mail is similar to those confirmation services that require your recipients to accept the tag before viewing the email. Mutual Mail is only activated if you tag an email with it and the recipient blocks MSGTAG’s regular tagging code. That way, this somewhat obtrusive alternative is only triggered when absolutely necessary.
